Lost a Pet?

Have you lost your pet in Tuscaloosa? You’ve come to the right place. Our ‘Lost a Pet’ page is the most trusted local resource designed specifically to assist distressed pet owners in searching for their lost dogs, cats, or other pets. We understand the deep bond between pets and their families, and the anxiety that surfaces when a pet goes missing.

What should you do first?

If you’ve found yourself in the unfortunate situation of losing a pet, it’s important to stay calm and take immediate action. The first thing you should do is start a thorough search of your home, backyard, and immediate neighborhood. Sometimes pets may hide in unusual places or wander off nearby. Often, a missing pet can be found near the home. If you still can’t find your pet, don’t stress, we have several more steps you can take below to help reunite you with your pet!

What you should do next

Contact Local Animal Shelters and Veterinary Clinics: Reach out to all the animal shelters, rescue groups, and vet clinics in your area. Provide them with a detailed description of your pet and your contact information. We have linked the animal shelter’s website below. We have also added a link to our resource page which lists several local vet clinics and animal rescues you can reach out to.

Always visit the Animal Shelter in person!

Due to the volume of animals the shelter gets in on a daily basis it can be hard for any one staff member to know if your animal came in. Plus, without a picture (and even with) sometimes it can be hard for staff to determine if your pet is in the shelter. It is ALWAYS best to visit the shelter and look for your pet in person!

Create a Lost Pet Flyer: Prepare a flyer with a clear, recent photo of your pet and pertinent information such as their name, breed, color, age, and any distinctive features. Include your contact information and the date and place where your pet was last seen. We have added a link below of a free poster generator you can use to make a poster of your missing pet.

Spread the Word: Distribute the flyers in your neighborhood, local parks, grocery stores, and other high-traffic community areas. Post the information on social media platforms, community bulletin boards, and lost pet websites.

Report to Local Animal Control Agencies: Contact your local animal control agencies and report your pet missing. Provide them with detailed information and a photograph if possible. We’ve listed the numbers for all area animal control agencies below.

The most important thing is not to lose hope!

Regularly check with shelters and vet clinics, and keep an eye on found pet reports. Keep your search active, and don’t lose hope. Many pets are found days, weeks, or even months after they’ve gone missing.
